SINGAPORE 15 December 2015 – Take That, the celebrated UK pop band, will return to Singapore for the first time in over two decades for a one-off concert on Saturday, 5th March.
Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen will headline a four-day music line-up at the new-look HSBC Women’s Champions at the Sentosa Golf Club from 3rd – 6th March 2016.
Organized by IMG, Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and sponsor HSBC, the HSBC Women’s Champions promises four days of world class entertainment for music aficionados, foodies and golf fans amid the spectacular vistas of Sentosa Golf Club.
Live Music
Formed in 1990, Take That had a string of number one hits over a six-year period, with tracks including ‘Back for Good’, ‘How Deep is Your Love’ and ‘Babe’. The Manchester group took a 10-year hiatus before returning straight to number one with ‘Patience’ in 2006.
Now performing as a three-piece group, the UK’s biggest live band has just completed its ninth concert tour, spanning 50 shows across eight countries.
The four-day event is set to feature a host of other local and international talents, including the highly acclaimed 29-year-old EDM artist, Jack Novak from Chicago who will spin in the event amphitheatre in the early evening before gates open to the driving range, where Take That will perform.
HSBC Women’s Champions
Already one of the highlights in Singapore’s annual sporting calendar, the HSBC Women’s Champions returns to its home at Sentosa, giving golf fans the chance to witness the biggest names in the women’s game as they compete to be crowned Champion of Champions in one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world.
With news that defending champion and world no. 2 Inbee Park, world no.1 Lydia Ko, and 2014 Champion, Paula Creamer, will all be returning to The Serapong Course, fans can look forward to a fascinating battle on the golf course.
Seven-time Major champion Park said:
“I am very excited to have the opportunity to defend my HSBC Women’s Champions title. The tournament is one of the best in the world and always has one of the toughest fields we play all year so it’s a great tournament to play. The festival sounds like a great move and is definitely the right way forward for the game. It is very exciting and I’m looking forward to seeing it all in March!”
Ko, runner-up last year and the current world number one, added:
“HSBC Women’s Champions is undoubtedly one of the best organised and most exciting tournaments in the world which is why I keep returning to Singapore. Sentosa has a wonderful course, one which brings out the best in me. I have been playing well and hope I can get on the champions list this time round. With the likes of Take That and Jack Novak entertaining the fans and players, 2016 will be the best yet! I am very excited about it.”
Food Heaven
With gastronomy making up the final part of the ‘holy trinity’, visitors will be treated to a food village unlike those found in a standard sporting event. The organisers will invite an internationally renowned chef to create a signature menu in a pop-up food booth, which is set to be the main-attraction in a new-look spectator village located between the golf course and music stage.
A New Look to HSBC Women’s Champions
Speaking about the festival’s debut this March, Giles Morgan, Global Head of Sponsorship & Events for HSBC, said:
“As a long term sponsor of the sport, our ambition is to open up the world of golf – over the last decade we have opened up new territories and tournaments such as HSBC Women’s Champions here in Singapore and we are absolutely committed to growing the game at all levels. At the heart of this is our ambition to attract new and younger audiences – it’s why we commissioned Golf’s 2020 Vision Report back in 2012, it’s why we launched our Anyone’s Game campaign in 2014 and it’s why we are always looking at new ways to innovate around our flagship events”.
“As a global sponsor of golf, we believe our role is to help innovate and take our events to the next level. The 2016 HSBC Women's Champions aims to do just that through a fusion of golf, music and food. When fans and players talk about HSBC Women's Champions, they will talk about the Singapore Experience - HSBC Women's Champions is now more than a golf tournament - it's the place to be in Singapore at the beginning of March, golf fan or not."
Jean Ng, Director, Sports, Singapore Tourism Board, said:
“Singapore is delighted to be the home of the highly prestigious HSBC Women’s Champions. With the inclusion of entertainment and dining experiences in this new event, both casual and avid golf fans can look forward to a memorable experience while catching world-class golfing action. We believe Singapore’s position as the region’s sport and entertainment hub will also be further strengthened as a result.”
Robbie Henchman, Senior Vice President, Head of IMG Asia Pacific, commented:
“Golf, music and food enthusiasts will be treated to a completely new experience at the HSBC Women’s Champions in March. Whilst top-flight golfing action remains an integral part of the programme, visitors can look forward to a four-day festival that has something to offer every member of the family. We have transformed the dynamics of the event to ensure that the three different components all work together, making for an entirely new visitor experience. I believe that the HSBC Women’s Champions will reflect the way that all sporting events should be staged in Asia and will lead the way in the evolution of fan engagement and visitor experience at live events of this kind.
