No.1 is a position Lydia Ko has found herself more than any other player this season.
With five wins on the LPGA Tour, as well as 11 other top-10 finishes, Ko has climbed to the No.1 ranking in the world twice this season and earned 4,913 points in the season long Race to the CME Globe. In doing so, she has locked up the No.1 position in the standings ahead of the season ending CME Group Tour Championship, 969 points ahead of Inbee Park in the No.2 spot. Although Ko is not playing in this week's Lorena Ochoa Invitational, it is mathematically impossible for Park or any other player to pass her in the standings.
Ko has the opportunity to take home the $1 million dollar prize that comes with winning the Race to the CME Globe if she can capture the CME Group Tour Championship. That’s exactly what she did last season, entering the season’s final event at No.3 in the standings, but with a final round 68 Ko was able to earn her way into a playoff with 54-hole leader Julieta Granada and Carlota Ciganda. She won on the fourth playoff hole to clinch both the CME Group Tour Championship and Race to the CME Globe, earning the $1.5 million dollar payout.
