Just eight points separated Michelle Wie from Inbee Park in clinching the inaugural Rolex Annika Major Award in 2014.
The race for this year’s award couldn’t have been more different.
After being narrowly edged out last year, Park needed only three of the five majors in 2015 to secure enough points to win this year’s Rolex Annika Major Award.
To qualify for the award, players must win one of the season’s five major championships. In addition to victories, points can also be earned by finishing in the top-10 in each of the majors.
At the season’s first major championship, the ANA Inspiration, Park finished in a tie for 11th, leaving her without any points to start the race. But Park bounced back at the season’s second major, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, winning the event for the third consecutive year and receiving the 60 points that came along with winning. The win put Park in second place, 14 points behind ANA Inspiration champion Brittany Lincicome. With a T-3 finish at the U.S. Women’s Open, Park picked up another 18 points to pull ahead of Lincicome in the standings. Park’s victory at the RICOH Women’s British Open earned her 60 points for a total of 138 points, enough to lock up the award for the year, making it mathematically impossible for anyone else to surpass her.
Park will receive the second annual Rolex Annika Major Award Saturday evening at the Evian Championship with the award’s namesake Annika Sorenstam on-site to assist in the presentation.
