Recently a fan watching the telecast noticed one of the caddies carrying a carry bag during the round. The announcers explained that this could only be done twice a year. The questioned was asked: "Why and what difference does it make what kind of bag a caddie carries during a tournament? There doesn't seem to be an advantage."
According to a LPGA Tour Rules Official, the LPGA regulation regarding bag size is more of a matter of appearance than advantage. All players must use a regulation-size tour golf bag of at least 8” in diameter. The exception to using a smaller bag with a stand is available to players twice per year, mostly used for family members or friends when they caddie.
