Inbee Park
In search of her third major championship of 2015 and potentially the Super Career Grand Slam, Inbee Park has a lot to play for this week at the Evian Championship. Park won this event in 2012, so she knows what it takes to navigate the course and get a win on this track. Already with four wins in 2015 including capturing two major championships at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and RICOH Women’s British Open, she has continued to play great golf of late, finished T-9 in her last start at the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open. Park is my pick to win and make history this week at Evian.
Hyo Joo Kim
LPGA rookie Hyo Joo Kim defends her title this week at Evian where she captured her first win on the LPGA Tour and first major championship last season. As a rookie this season, Kim has played like anything but, missing only one cut in her entire professional career at the U.S. Women’s Open this summer. Kim has finished no worse than T-35 in 2015 and has seven top-10 finishes. Given her opening round 61 at last year’s Evian Championship, Kim clearly has the game to dominate in this event.
Suzann Pettersen
2013 Evian Champion Suzann Pettersen consistently plays well in France. Pettersen has four top-10’s in this event in addition to her victory two years ago which was the first year the event was considered a major championship. Pettersen won earlier this season at the 2015 Manulife LPGA Classic and has continued to contend in the majors, finishing fifth at the RICOH Women’s British Open.
Shanshan Feng
With nine top-10 finishes on the LPGA Tour in 2015, Shanshan Feng is due for a victory. She has played consistently well and contended in the majors, including a tie for eighth at the ANA Inspiration in April. Feng’s game suits the Evian well, carding three top-11 finishes in her last three starts in this event.
Karrie Webb
The 2006 winner of the Evian Championship could just as easily be considered a four-time champion of this event. Karrie Webb has finished either runner-up or in a share of second place at Evian three times, most recently last year. Webb has also played well this season with three top-10’s in 2015.
Alison Lee
This week rookie Alison Lee makes her first start in the Evian Championship. Boosted by her desire to make the U.S. Solheim Cup team, which she accomplished, Lee has five top-10 finishes in her first season on Tour. While she has struggled in the majors this year, her best finish coming in a T-26 at the U.S. Women’s Open, her excitement ahead of next week’s Solheim Cup will help lift her to her best major finish of the year.
Backup Team
Rookies Brooke Henderson and Minjee Lee make up my backup team for this week’s Evian Championship. Both have already won in their first season on Tour. Henderson won her first event and secured LPGA membership in dominating fashion with an 8-stroke victory at the Cambia Portland Classic and Lee won at the Kingsmill Championship. While Henderson makes her first start in France, Lee finished T-16 in her first appearance last year.
