1. In Gee Chun
With seven worldwide wins in 2015 including three major championships, In Gee Chun is definitely one to keep an eye on this week in Korea. Chun became the first to win major championships on three different tours in one season with her victory two weeks ago at the Japan Women’s Open, where she won in a playoff. She nearly won the LPGA KEB Hana Bank Championship last year, losing in a playoff to Q Baek.
2. Michelle Wie
In her last two starts in Korea, Michelle Wie hasn’t finished outside the top-5, which included coming back from injury last season to finish T-5. She got off to a hot start last week in Malaysia with an opening round 66 that put her within one of the lead, but she stumbled on the weekend closing with a 5-over par 76 to finish T-42, not a true indicator of the huge strides she’s made since coming back from multiple injuries this season.
3. Alison Lee
Rookie Alison Lee is in the hunt for the first win of her career and she has come close several times in her first season on Tour, posting six top-10 finishes. She led early last week in Malaysia but ultimately fell back into a tie for 15th, still a great performance for what was her first start at Sime Darby.
4. Yani Tseng
Former World No.1 Yani Tseng is clawing her way back up the rankings, posting two top-5 finishes in her last three starts. Tseng has consistently played well in Korea, winning this event in 2011 in addition to a runner-up finish in 2009 and third place finish in 2012.
5. Lydia Ko
It’s hard not to consider the No.2 ranked player in the world this week given how she has played in her last three starts: two wins and a runner-up finish. Ko has made just one start in Korea, finishing 29th last season.
6. Brittany Lincicome
The LPGA KEB Hana Bank is an event that consistently brings out the best golf in Brittany Lincicome. Having lost last year in a playoff with In Gee Chun and eventual champion Q Baek, Lincocome has three other top-10 finishes in this event. She makes her first start this week since the Solheim Cup, having skipped last week’s Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia.
7. So Yeon Ryu
With eight top-10 finishes this season, So Yeon Ryu is due to break through for a victory in the closing stretch of the season. She posted a T-12 finish in this event last season and finished T-38 last week in Malaysia. It could be the extra boost she gets from teeing it up at home this week that puts her over the top.
8. Gerina Piller
In search of her first win on the LPGA Tour, Gerina Piller might just get it done this week after posting a T-8 finish last year in Malaysia. She is coming off a T-25 in Malaysia last week.
9. Morgan Pressel
The Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia was a rollercoaster for Morgan Pressel, who posted a 73, a 63 and a final round hole in one. Pressel finished T-24 in this event last year.
10. Minjee Lee
Rookie Minjee Lee has four top-10 finishes this season including her first victory at the Kingsmill Championship. She posted a T-24 finish last year at the LPGA KEB Hana Bank Championship, her first start in the event.
