Lexi Thompson to tee it up in this year's Franklin Templeton Shootout. Tournament host and World Golf Hall of Fame member Greg Norman announced Monday that Thompson would be among 24 players set to compete in the 12-team competition scheduled for December 8-10, 2016 at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Fla.
Seven-time winner and World No. 4, Thompson, is one of eight players competing for the first time in the unofficial PGA Tour event. It also marks the first time since 2006 that a female golfer will compete. In 2006 Annika Sorenstam was paired with Freddie Couples.
Thompson is set to be paired with fellow Cobra Puma star Bryson DeChambeau during the December event.
This year, Thompson is a part of a field that also includes defending champs Brandt Snedeker and Jason Dufner, also in the field are PGA Tour players Matt Kuchar, Steve Stricker, Davis Love III, Kenny Perry, Billy Horschel, among others.
The 54-hole team event has been played annually since 1989, it features scramble play during the opening round, followed by modified alternate shot and better ball.
