Solheim Cup star, top amateur and #2 on LET all playing at Plantation Golf & Country Club
VENICE, FLORIDA, September 28, 2016 - The road to LPGA membership continues the week of October 17-23 with Stage II of LPGA Qualifying Tournament at Plantation Golf & Country Club. The field of 193 LPGA Tour hopefuls will compete over four days to advance to Final Stage.
The top 80 and ties will make it to Final Stage of LPGA Qualifying Tournament, which will be held in Daytona Beach the week of November 28-December 4.
The field for Stage II is loaded with top talent from the United States and 35 different nations around the globe. The field is headlined by Melissa Reid (Loughborough, England), who was a break out star for the European Team in the 2015 Solheim Cup. Reid, who ranks No. 141 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, went 3-0-1 in the 2015 Solheim Cup and has five career wins on the Ladies European Tour.
The field also features the top two ranked amateurs according to the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), Leona Maguire (Cavan, Ireland) and Bronte Law (Stockport, England). Maguire, who represented Ireland in the 2016 Olympic Games, is a junior at Duke and is already a two-time WGCA First-Team All-American. She was the 2014-15 National Player of the Year and has four career wins. Law, a sophomore at UCLA, was named the Pac-12 Golfer of the Year and the winner of the prestigious ANNIKA Award in 2014-15. Both Maguire and Law made the cut at the RICOH Women’s British Open this year.
The number two ranked player on the Ladies European Tour, Beth Allen, is also in Stage II. Allen has five top 10 finishes this year and won the 2015 ISPS Handa Ladies European Masters. She is the highest ranked player in Stage II at number 81 in the world.
Other notable names include: Aditi Ashok, who represented India in the 2016 Olympics, Mariah Stackhouse, who won a national title at Stanford and Tiffany Chan, who represented Hong Kong in the 2016 Olympics.
First-round play will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 20 on both the Bobcat and Panther courses.
