OCALA – Play was suspended in round two of the Coates Golf Championship Presented by R+L Carriers at 12:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon due to lightning in the area. Play was ultimately suspended for the day at 3:15 p.m. due to lightning and unplayable conditions. Round two will resume at 7:30 a.m. Friday morning.
World No.1 Lydia Ko was able to complete nearly all of her second round, going 4-under on her day to move into a share of the lead with Ha Na Jang at 7-under par. Ko has a 15-foot putt remaining on the 9th hole, her final hole of the day, to complete her round. She seemed to jinx herself just before her group arrived at the last.
“Yeah, the par-5 we were talking about, you know, when is the rain going to come and all that. I said, ‘Hey, I've never been suspended, never been suspended where I have got one putt to go or I'm on the green,” Ko told the media. “Then the girls were saying, Ah, now that we said it it'll probably happen. And guess what? It did.”
Jang has yet to tee off, having been scheduled to begin her day at 12:45 p.m. Haru Nomora finished her second round, carding the low round of the day with a 6-under par, 66 to climb into a share of third with Kelly Tan, who only completed three holes on Thursday. Xi Yu Lin and Lizette Salas are T-5 at 5-under par through 16 holes. More than a dozen players are T-7 at 4-under par, including Suzann Pettersen, rookie In Gee Chun, Juli Inkster, Lexi Thompson and Michelle Wie, who will all return Friday to complete their second round.
22 players completed the second round on Thursday, leaving 27 players who have yet to tee off. The third round is expected to begin at 1:45 p.m. Friday afternoon, a one wave, two-tee start.
The current projected cut line is at 1-over par.
