Stacy Lewis (-4), Sung Hyun Park (-4), Moriya Jutanugarn (-3)
Group 15 – 9:44 a.m. – 1st Tee
Stacy Lewis, Sung Hyun Park and Moriya Jutanugarn sit within striking distance of the lead after day one in Singapore. Lewis’ position near the top of the leaderboard should come as no surprise. The world No. 13 consistently plays well in Singapore where she won in 2013 and has three more top-10s. Thursday, Lewis opened with a nearly flawless, four-under par 68 saved for one bogey at the par three, seventh hole. Park fired an up and down 68 in her debut round as a member of the LPGA Tour. Park struggled on the second nine where she made three bogeys in a five-hole stretch but still managed just 25 putts. Moriya Jutanugarn opened with a 69 on Thursday to sit just three-strokes back of the lead. Her game has continued to trend upward this season with back to back T-16 finishes in the Bahamas and Australia followed by a seventh place finish in her home country of Thailand.
Brooke Henderson (-5), Ariya Jutanugarn (-5), Inbee Park (-5)
Group 19 – 10:08 a.m. – 1st Tee
Brooke Henderson, Ariya Jutanugarn and Inbee Park sit just one-stroke back of the lead after round one in Singapore. Henderson put an exclamation point on her opening round by making birdie at both the 17th and 18th holes to card a five-under par, 67. The Canadian made it around in just 25 putts as she continues to get reacquainted with her mallet style putter, which she put back in her bag after a brief switch to a blade in the Bahamas. Despite a stretch of three consecutive bogeys, Ariya Jutanugarn still managed to pull out a five-under par, 67 on day one in Singapore. The world No. 2 says putting will be the difference maker this week but with 29 putts on Thursday will have some work to do to stay in the hunt. Park carded a flawless, bogey-free 67 on day one to post her lowest round on Tour since the Kia Classic in March 2016. Park knows what it takes to get it done here on the weekend having won in 2015.
Michelle Wie (-6), Mo Martin (-5), Anna Nordqvist (-5)
Group 21 – 10:20 a.m. – 1st Tee
For the first time since 2014, Michelle Wie holds the opening round lead on the LPGA Tour. Wie opened with a six-under par, 66 for her low round of 2017. The player notorious for tinkering, especially with her putting styles, made yet another adjustment this week. Wie ditched the claw grip she used in her last start and implemented a more upright and traditional putting stance that paid off on day one in Singapore. Friday, she’ll play alongside Mo Martin and Anna Nordqvist who sit just one-stroke back of the lead. Martin opened with a bogey-free, 67 for her low round of the year. She’s had a slow start to the season but is on pace to post her first top-20 of 2017. Nordqvist is making just her second start of the year this week in Singapore. She carded a nearly flawless round of 67 on Thursday saved for a bogey at the par five, eighth hole. Her putter caught fire on day one, making it around in just 24 putts – the fewest of any player in the top-10 on the leaderboard.
