Thompson Top-Ranked In Indy
Lexi Thompson headlines the field at the inaugural Indy Women in Tech Championship presented by Guggeheim. Resilient seems appropriate in describing the world’s third ranked player, who has overcome great obstacles this season, including her mother’s battle with cancer, to continue to contend week in and week out. She arrives in Indianapolis off a tie for 21st in Portland where her final round 68 hardly tells the story of her day. On Sunday in Portland, Thompson got off to a roller coaster front nine which included a stretch of five holes where she went bogey, eagle, double bogey, eagle, bogey. She rebounded with four consecutive birdies on the back, followed by a bogey, to recover with a four-under par, 68. Thompson leads the Race to the CME Globe standings and as the only player ranked in the top-5 in the standings to tee it up this week in Indianapolis, she has a chance to further extend her lead in the season-long race.
She’s joined in the field by No. 8 Lydia Ko, who returns to action this week at Brickyard Crossing Golf Club looking to find a spark after missing the cut in two of her last three starts. Rounding out the top-10 in the field is Brooke Henderson, who came up short of her third consecutive win last week in Portland where she settled for a tie for 15th.
Lewis Wins For Houston
Stacy Lewis is looking to keep the momentum rolling this week in Indy after her heart-filled victory in Portland, her first win on Tour since 2014. Lewis played inspired golf as the Houston resident announced at the start of the week she planned to donate her tournament winnings to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. In Portland, Lewis picked up her 12th career win and seventh top-10 of the season.
Nordqvist Returns
Anna Nordqvist returns to action in Indianapolis as she makes her first start on Tour since the Ricoh Women’s British Open. The world No. 13 has battled mono since mid-July and took a break from the Tour following the Solheim Cup to further recuperate ahead of the season’s final stretch. Already a winner this season at the Bank of Hope Founders Cup, Nordqvist has three more top-10s this season including a tie for seventh in her last start at Kingsbarns Golf Links.
Mo Keeps Momentum Rolling
Moriya Jutanugarn’s work with Gary Gilchrist and Vision54 continues to show dividends as she arrives in Indianapolis off a tie for third in Portland, where she picked up her seventh top-10 of the season. She’ll be the only Jutanugarn in the field this week as her sister, Ariya, is not competing. Also in the field is Brittany Altomare, who finished tied for third with Jutanugarn. The 2014 rookie posted her career best finish last week in Portland and first top-5 of the year. Also in the field is Gerina Piller, who finished tied for fifth in Portland to pick up her second top-5 in her last three starts.
