Danielle Kang, the 2011 Smyth Salver winner, returns this year as Major winner
7 JULY 2017
Winner of the 2017 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship Danielle Kang today joined the stellar line-up of the world’s best golfers heading to the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Kingsbarns Golf Links, St Andrews, Scotland from 3 to 6 August 2017.
Kang won the Ricoh Women’s British Open Smyth Salver as the leading amateur in 2011 at Carnoustie and scored both her first Major win and LPGA victory last weekend, edging out the defending Champion, Canada’s Brooke Henderson, with a birdie at the final hole of the second Major of the year.
Kang, who turned professional in 2011 after winning two consecutive US Women’s Amateur Championships, said: “I can't wait to go to Kingsbarns to play in the Ricoh Women's British Open as a Major winner. I played my first Ricoh Women's British Open at Carnoustie in 2011 where I won the Smyth Salver award for being the low amateur of the tournament. I truly love playing in Scotland and I can't express how excited I am to return to the Home of Golf to play the game that I love."
Every winner from the past 24 Majors are in this year’s field, including World No. 1 So Yeon Ryu; the 2017 ANA Inspiration champion, Defending Champion and World No. 2 Ariya Jutanugarn; World No. 3 and winner of the 2014 ANA Inspiration Lexi Thompson; and World No. 4 and the 2015 Evian Championship and 2016 ANA Inspiration Champion Lydia Ko.
