BOSTON, March 7, 2018 – Legends Tour members will once again pair with juniors at this year’s ANA Junior Inspiration at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
Set for Sunday, March 25, the event will team two junior girls with 24 LPGA veterans in a best-ball format that will coincide with the final round of the ANA Junior Inspiration. Designed to foster mentorship between LPGA legends and future leaders in the game, the event kicks off the LPGA’s first major championship of the season, the ANA Inspiration, set for March 26-April 1.
Twenty Legends participated in the 2017 event, with a roster of 24 Legends expecting to pair with 48 juniors this year.
“I really enjoyed playing with the juniors in the ANA Junior Inspiration last year,” said LPGA Hall of Fame member Betsy King, who won the single-round event in 2017. “It was also fun to play on the Dinah Shore Course and playing well brought back memories of competing in the championship.”
King won three times at the LPGA’s major championship at Mission Hills Country Club, capturing titles at the 1987, 1990 and 1997 Nabisco Dinah Shore.
“I’m excited to be at the ANA again this year,” added King, a 34-time LPGA Tour winner. “It’s fun to see the young golfers and to reminisce with the other past champions.”
Ten former champions will be in the field to compete alongside the junior competitors, including three-time Nabisco Dinah Shore winner Amy Alcott, who won in 1983, 1988 and 1991.
Alcott also became the first tournament winner to leap into the pond adjacent to the 18th green at Mission Hills – starting a tradition that continues today.
Mission Hills has hosted an LPGA event since 1972, with the Colgate-Dinah Shore Winner’s Circle held from 1972-1980, followed by: the Colgate-Dinah Shore (1981); the Nabisco Dinah Shore Invitational (1982); the Nabisco Dinah Shore (1983-1999); the
Nabisco Championship (2000-2001); the Kraft Nabisco Championship (2002-2014); to the ANA Inspiration, from 2015 to present.
