INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 25, 2019 – In a continuation of its inspirational #DriveOn campaign unveiled earlier this year, the LPGA Tour today introduced the next installment in the story-telling series, a 30-second video featuring third-year player Mariah Stackhouse. In her rookie year of 2017, the Georgia native became the seventh African American player to qualify for the LPGA Tour.
The video, which highlights Stackhouse’s path to the game of golf, premiered at yesterday’s Indianapolis Women in Tech (IWiT) Summit and officially launched earlier today with a Facebook Live press conference at the LPGA’s IWiT Championship driven by Group 1001. The video will begin airing during Golf Channel’s broadcast of the IWiT Championship on Sept. 26-29 and will also be seen across the LPGA Tour’s social-media platforms (Twitter: @LPGA; Instagram: @LPGA_Tour).
Stackhouse’s road to the LPGA began at a public golf course in North Atlanta. She credits her parents’ belief and support, including a daily affirmation of her goals and dreams, for instilling the confidence to pursue her passions.
"Golf has been an integral part of my life story and a gateway of opportunity,” said Stackhouse. “Part of my mission is to reach more people who may not have thought of golf as their sport too.
“The popular saying ‘you cannot be what you do not see’ really resonates with me, but I also think ‘you cannot be what you do not believe.’ Desire, discipline, hard work and surrounding myself with people who believe in my dreams have been invaluable to me in life, at school and as I work toward my aspirations on the LPGA.”
A decorated amateur, Stackhouse represented the U.S. on the victorious 2014 Curtis Cup team. She was a four-time All-American at Stanford University, where she helped lead the Cardinal to the NCAA National Championship in 2015.
