Luna Sobron Galmes is competing in the LOTTE Championship for just the second time in her career. She missed the cut in her last appearance back in 2018, but with her eyes set on Kapolei Golf Club, Sobron Galmes is relishing the paradise that surrounds her this week in Hawaii. It definitely showed on Thursday, as the 26-year-old posted a second-round 64, her new career-best 18-hole score.
“Well, my game now is really good. I make a lot of birdies in the first round, so I'm very happy,” said Sobron Galmes, who carded 16 total birdies in the last two days. “I feel very confident so I am just thinking enjoy it.”
A 2018 LPGA Tour rookie, Sobron Galmes only played in two Tour events in 2020, the AIG Women’s Open and Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open. Though she missed the cut in both appearances, the Spaniard earned four top-10 finishes on the Ladies European Tour last year, with three of them coming in her last four tournaments. She recorded her season-best finish on the LET at the Saudi Ladies Team International, where she came in a tie for second. The 26-year-old played in the first two Epson Tour events, securing a T20 finish at the IOA Championship presented by Morongo Casino Resort & Spa, and said she’s been feeling more confident in her game this week at LOTTE.
“One month ago…I change all my shafts. I was using -- now I am using graphite irons, graphite shafts,” said Sobron Galmes, on changes she’s made in her game of late. “So the long game is very good, and I was working on my putter.”
Sobron Galmes also has boyfriend Alvaro Alonso, who regularly caddies for LPGA Tour winner Gaby Lopez, on her bag for the week, an additional comfort in paradise. “He give me a lot of confidence, so it's a plus to have him on my bag. So I'm very happy to spend this week with him,” said Galmes. “Well, we'll see. The weekend, two more days, and enjoy.”
