During the pro-am on Wednesday at the Mizuho Americas Open, Mina Harigae made the 21st hole-in-one of her golfing career on the par-3, 2nd hole at Liberty National Golf Club.
Harigae hit a “flighted down” 6-iron from 154 yards and said that while it was a well-struck shot, she wasn’t expecting it to go in.
“As soon as I hit it, I knew it was exactly how I wanted to hit it, but I didn’t think it would actually go in,” Harigae said. “I couldn’t really see it go in, but my pro-am partner saw it go in. They were super excited and were probably wondering why I wasn’t more excited. Not that I wasn’t, but I was laughing about it more than anything.”
Making an ace in a pro-am isn’t something that many players would want to do, instead hoping to save that bit of luck for a tournament day. But Harigae doesn’t seem to mind and hopes it’s an indicator of how the week ahead will go.
“I’d like to think it’s a good omen,” she said. “I started hitting it well last week, and I’m getting more and more comfortable with how I’m swinging it.”
