The HSBC Women's World Championship marks Peiyun Chien's third LPGA Tour start this season, and the 33-year-old is making the most of her latest opportunity. She currently sits at 6-under and four back of 54-hole leader Ayaka Furue at the Tanjong Course at Sentosa Golf Club.
Chien opened with three pars before making a birdie on her fourth hole to eventually make the turn in 35. She would add a birdie on the back nine to post a bogey-free, third-round 70.
The Chinese Taipei native felt like while she was hitting her driver and irons better in round three, her putts just weren't dropping. She hit 15 of 18 greens today but needed 31 putts to complete the round.
"Driver is better. Iron is better. Everything is better,” said Chien of her 2-under 70. “Just a lot of putts didn't go in. That's it. I think my greens in regulation is pretty good. So just couple putts, didn't get it.”
Chien is eager to win on the LPGA Tour, and while today she didn't take advantage of the par 5s for fear of risking a big number on Saturday, she plans to be more aggressive on those par 5s tomorrow with the potential for victory in Singapore exciting her.
"I really want to win with my first win as soon as possible because I took care of every shot, every swing, everything I need to do,” said Chien. “So, like what I said today, just very happy to be here and I played well yesterday. If I can do it, I do it. If not, still have a lot of chance, I can go for it."
