Four amateur champions will have opportunity to shine with the world’s brightest stars on the game’s biggest stage
THE WOODLANDS, Texas (April 11, 2024) – After a thrilling victory at last week’s Augusta National Women’s Amateur, England’s Lottie Woad has confirmed her berth in The Chevron Championship playing field.
From April 17-21, the best female golfers on the planet will come together at The Club at Carlton Woods to vie for the chance to become a major champion - or to become one again. For elite amateur players like Woad, it is a chance to test themselves against the brightest stars in the game on the game’s biggest stage.
Woad, a sophomore at Florida State University, birdied holes 15, 17 and 18 to take a one-stroke victory at Augusta National Golf Club. Her debut in The Chevron Championship will mark the 20-year-old’s first appearance in an LPGA Tour event.
“I want to be a professional and to be playing in these events. To get this experience so early on is going to be great for me,” Woad said. “I haven't played in a major before. I think I've played in a couple of pro events, but never like an LPGA event. So this is going to be really exciting for me.”
Providing amateurs with greater access to the LPGA Tour and the opportunity to shine in a major tournament is a central piece of The Chevron Championship’s mission. Woad will join three other elite amateurs in The Chevron’s field: Chun-Wei Wu of Chinese Taipei, winner of the 2024 Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific; America’s Megan Schofill, winner of the 2023 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship; and Argentina’s Ela Anacona, winner of the 2024 Women’s Latin America Amateur Championship.
The professional field includes several past winners of these elite amateur events, including 2023 ANWA champion and 2020 U.S. Women’s Amateur champion Rose Zhang; 2012 U.S. Women’s Amateur champion and 2016 Chevron champion Lydia Ko; 2019 ANWA champion and 2022 Chevron champion Jennifer Kupcho; 2008 British Women’s Amateur champion and three-time major champion Anna Nordqvist; and defending Champion champion Lilia Vu. Other notable 2024 competitors who have played in The Chevron as an amateur invite include Canadian favorite Brooke Henderson, Woad’s fellow English player Charley Hull, Rolex Rankings No. 1 Nelly Korda, 2021 Chevron winner Patty Tavatanakit and 2014 Chevron winner Lexi Thompson.
