“A Global Tour Like No Other”
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., January 26, 2017 – The LPGA debuts its 2017 advertising campaign today during the first round of the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic on Golf Channel. The 2017 edition of the LPGA’s campaign highlights the global reach of the LPGA Tour and the youth of its top players. Spots were created by Austin-based ad agency Divot Group and will be rolled out during LPGA telecasts on Golf Channel over the first several tournaments of the 2017 season.
The playful, light-hearted ad series aims to showcase the diverse background of LPGA Tour players while capturing their approachability; a separate series showcases the amazing accomplishments at such a young age of top ranked players Lydia Ko, Brooke Henderson and Ariya Jutanugarn and humorously states they “refuse to let age slow them down.”
“Two clear themes have emerged on the LPGA: global and youth,” said LPGA Chief Commercial Officer Jon Podany. “The global reach of the LPGA can be seen in everything from our players, fan base, sponsors, partners, tournament locations, and what these players are accomplishing in their teens is truly amazing.”
“We wanted to showcase these aspirational aspects of our Tour and give fans an opportunity to see our players in a different light beyond swinging a golf club, which hopefully will encourage women and inspire girls around the world to play golf and experience the LPGA,” Podany continued.
The 2017 season continues to feature players from across the globe with representatives from 33 countries. Last season showcased 18 winners from 12 different countries. In the current top five of the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, there are five LPGA players each representing a different country (New Zealand, Thailand, Republic of Korea, China, and the United States) and 12 countries are represented in the top 21 in the Rolex Rankings.
As for the youthful talent at the top ranks of the Tour, the average age of LPGA tournament winners in 2016 was 22.3, and seven of the top 10 players in the current Rolex Rankings are under the age of 24.
In addition to the LPGA’s Golf Channel telecasts, the spots will be featured through the LPGA’s international television partners, on LPGA.com, and via the LPGA’s social media channels, including YouTube, Twitter and Facebook beginning Thursday, January 26.
