If Brittany Lincicome played the 18th hole at the ANA Inspiration every week, she would make the Wounded Warrior Project even happier.
Last week in winning the first major championship of the year, Lincicome hit a 5-iron from 190 yards to set up a short eagle putt, which eventually tied Stacy Lewis and forced a playoff. In 2009, when she also won the tournament, Lincicome hit a hybrid from 210 yards to 4 feet on the final hole and sealed a one-stroke victory.
Lincicome and Lydia Ko (ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open) are the only two winners this season who have made eagles in the season-long program. There were four weekend eagles at the ANA, one week after a season-high 16 were recorded at the Kia Classic.
Through eight tournaments, there have been 60 eagles in the final two rounds of competition, bringing the total to $60,000.
The Wounded Warrior Weekend takes place during the final two rounds at LPGA tournaments, with CME Group donating $1,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project for each eagle that is recorded. This amount will increase to $5,000 for each eagle during the weekend of the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship and a formal check will be presented to the Wounded Warrior Project during the trophy ceremony. For the 2014 season, 283 eagles were made on the weekend, raising $283,000. While no eagles were made on the weekend in Naples, the CME Group generously rounded up to $300,000. The 2014 season also had a lot of aces and double eagles. Of the 31 holes in one, 15 came in weekend play. Of a record four double eagles during the year, three were scored on the weekend.
