Caitlin Mahon and Meghan McPeak have been selected as the first two winners of the LPGA Leadership Academy Scholarship, presented by AXA Financial and granted annually through The LPGA Foundation.
Mahon and McPeak, who are alumnae of the 2016 LPGA Leadership Academy held at Glen Arbor Golf Club in Bedford, New York, will both receive a $5,000 college scholarship and a VIP ‘inside the LPGA’ experience at the LPGA Tour's season-ending CME Tour Championship in November.
“AXA has supported the LPGA Leadership Academies since the inception of the program in 2015,” said Nancy Henderson, LPGA Foundation President. “This just shows how committed AXA is to help develop the next generation of female leaders through golf.”
Mahon, 17, a graduate of Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Flourtown, Pennsylvania, will attend the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences at Boston College this fall to study science, religion and education. She intends to pursue either a master's degree or a doctorate before doing scientific research in the fields of biology and physics.
Mahon played on her high school golf team for four years, finishing off as captain, and was a three-time All-Star for the Athletic Association of Catholic Academies. Her nine-hole stroke average during her four years on the golf team was 39.5.
McPeak, 18, a graduate of Carrboro High School in Carrboro, North Carolina, will attend the University of North Georgia to complete its five-year Chinese Flagship program. She plans to major in Mandarin Chinese and International Securities Studies with the long-term goal of working for either the United Nations or the Central Intelligence Agency.
Captain of her high school golf team for three years, McPeak competed in the state playoffs all four years she was on the team and never finished outside the top 10. She was an All-American after the 2016 Winternational Junior Series at Pinehurst Resort.
The LPGA Leadership Scholarship, granted to a female high school senior who is pursuing a college education in the United States, is designed to inspire, cultivate and support female undergraduates from diverse backgrounds to achieve their potential as future leaders.
The LPGA Foundation, in partnership with leading global organizations, has developed a Leadership program and scholarship to develop and support young women to become more effective leaders and make a positive impact in their communities, universities and in their professional lives through the game of golf.
