The USGA took to twitter to announce that they will be granting Stacy Lewis and Brittany Lincicome exemptions into the 74th U.S. Women’s Open next month.
The USGA released the following statement. “After an in-depth review of the new maternity policies of other sports organizations, we have decided to revisit our existing policy. Most notably, we are looking at the impact maternity leave has on our exemption categories. On this basis, and in lieu of a modified policy, we have offered spots in the 74thU.S. Women’s Open to Stacy Lewis and Brittany Lincicome.”
Prior to the review, players had the opportunity under the USGA’s Maternity Extension request to delay their exemption into the tournament one year.
Lewis took her maternity extension this season after delivering her daughter back in October. Lincicome also took her extension this season as she is due with her first child, a baby girl, in September.
