The third playing of the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play presented by MGM Rewards begins this Wednesday at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas, Nev. The 64-player field is set to battle it out for a $1.5 million purse and the event features a format that’s sure to bring the drama come Sunday afternoon.
Round-Robin Pool Play: Wednesday through Friday
The field of 64 will be divided into 16 groups based on a player’s position in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings on Monday, May 22. Each group will consist of four players and will be divided up in the following way:

Players will play one match from Wednesday to Friday against every other player in her group. One point will be awarded for a win, a half point will be awarded for a tie, and zero points will be awarded for a loss.
The player with the most points will advance from her group to the round of 16. Then, if necessary, a playoff will begin on No. 1, and both players will play the course in order until the conclusion of the playoff.
Single-Elimination Match Play: Saturday and Sunday
Sixteen players will advance to single-elimination match play on Saturday and Sunday, one player from each of the 16 groups. The round-of-16 matches will be played on Saturday morning, with the quarterfinals played on Saturday afternoon.
The semifinals will be held on Sunday morning, and the championship match will be played Sunday afternoon. Along with the championship match, the competition will host the “Players Challenge presented by MGM Resorts International,” a nine-hole, two-man team scramble showcasing NFL superstars.
