With a 12-foot birdie on the third playoff hole, Yuka Saso outlasted Nasa Hataoka to become the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open champion. Saso, a 19-year-old native of the Philippines, carded a final-round 73, birdieing two of her last three holes to catch Hataoka and a stumbling Lexi Thompson, who held a five-stroke lead at the turn but closed in 41, bogeying the final hole to drop into solo third.
