Update IIII (2:34 p.m. local): practice facilities are now open and an update regarding the first round is coming at 3:00 p.m.
Update III (1:35 p.m. local: officials are out assessing the course. The concern isn't the course conditions, but the high winds forecasted later in the afternoon. Next update at 2:30 p.m.
Update II (12:18 p.m. local): officials hope to begin assessing the course at 1:00 p.m. local and have another update at 1:30 p.m.
Update (10:24 a.m. local): play remains suspended and the next update will now come at 12:30 p.m. Officials will assess the course after the storms pass Old American Golf Club.
The first-round of the Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic was suspended at 8:09 a.m. central time due to high winds stemming from a storm at Old American Golf Club. LPGA Officials have notified players that they will wait for the storm to completely pass before resuming play.
Wind speeds reached 25-30 miles an hour and 25% of players were dealing with balls oscilating on the green according to LPGA Rules Official Marty Robinson.
Brittany Lang, Alexandra Newell and Jane Park are the leaders at 1-under. The first groups are through five holes.
